Though I know many of my readers are mainstream teachers looking for tips and resources to help their students master key language and concepts, I hope that many of you are also dedicated ESOL teachers. Most of my items can be used in almost any classroom in grades 4-8, but this one is specifically for the ESOL teachers!
I created this poster to hlep my students remember that we use our whole bodies to learn ESOL. It's a cute little poster that reminds them about being good listeners, and speakers, in the form of a class pledge. And it's yours....for just $1!
Just click the button below to download this poster, laminate, and hang in your classroom!
From one ESOL teacher to another - thank you for this! What a great way to tie in class goals with class rules. I think my kids will like this. One change I plan to make is to parenthetically add "most of the time" next to "I will speak in English." I don't want my students to feel that they can't ever use their home language in class.
ReplyDeleteGreat resources! I'm so glad to have found your blog.
Melanie,
DeleteThanks for stopping by. The reason that we have the rule that we only speak in English is (and I explain this to the students) we have so many students who speak so many different languages, that we don't want anyone to feel left out. I also tell them that we have so little time together in class (most of my groups are 30 minutes) that we need to spend all of it practicing their English. I encourage them to speak to their friends and family in their native language, and to read books in their native language. I also spend time at lunch or in the hallways speaking with the students whose native languages I speak so they can help me "practice".
