A new part of the journey....(and a shameless plug)

I know I've been rather lazy about posting lately, but surely you can forgive me. I did move about 4 states away and start a new job. In the meantime, I hope you haven't been dying of ennui.

So, I have started a new part of my journey as a public school teacher- my new job as an elementary ESOL teacher. I didn't think I would like elementary as much as I do, but I guess I spent enough time in the middle school environment that it is kind of a relief to deal with students who still have a little fear for authority. That doesn't mean that they always listen, but it does mean that it can be easier to get them back in line when they step out.

Often, my students walk up to me first thing in the morning and hug me for absolutely no reason (that I can see). I've never been much of a hugger, or much for small children, but it really touches something inside you to know that you have that much of an influence on a child's life.

Each day I work hard to make a difference in the lives of my students- most teachers I know do. People wonder why, when the government is breathing down the necks of educators, and public school teachers are being harrangued from every side with negativity, why anyone would want to be a school teacher. I don't have to look very far for that answer- it's easy to find in the faces of my students who need me and trust me to help them have a better life.

On another note, I'm going to put in a shameless plug for myself. I've discovered what is like ebay for teachers- teacherspayteachers.com. It is a site where teachers can post lesson plans, handouts, printables, and other items that they've made for use in their classroom so that other teachers can browse & buy. If you're a teacher, and you're not hooked into this idea yet- go check it out!! I saw one teacher say that she had made over $100,000. That's a lot of money!! So, check out my store at http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Laurah-Jurca/Products!!
